Remembering Vijayakanth, A Legend of Tamil Cinema and Politics
In a heartfelt condolence message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sadness over the demise of Tamil actor and DMDK chief, Vijayakanth, who passed away on Thursday, December 28, at a private hospital in Chennai. Describing him as a legend in the Tamil film world and a dedicated political leader, PM Modi acknowledged Vijayakanth's lasting impact on Tamil Nadu's political landscape.

Joining in the expressions of sorrow, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also acknowledged Vijayakanth's significant contributions to both cinema and politics. "His contributions to cinema and politics have left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions. My heartfelt condolences to his family and fans during this difficult time" wrote the former Congress chief on the microblogging site.
In a lengthy post on X, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister paid his last respects to Vijayakanth, praising his achievements in the film industry and public life. "Vijayakanth, who has a good heart, is an achiever who has made successful marks through his hard work in the film industry and public life," Stalin said.
Vijayakanth's passing follows a period of health struggles, with his admission to MIOT Hospital in Chennai due to pneumonia. Although his party initially stated that he tested positive for COVID and was on a ventilator, the hospital clarified that he battled pneumonia. The actor-turned-politician had been facing health issues since November.
Supporters, politicians, and fellow actors from the industry have poured in their condolences, mourning the loss of the beloved actor and DMDK chief, Captain Vijayakanth.
